The Centering Joy Maternal Health Summit and Community Baby Shower brought together expecting and postpartum families in York County, SC, for a day of culturally responsive education, direct support, and community connection. Featuring a keynote address from Krystle White on Black maternal health disparities, along with a panel of experts covering breastfeeding justice, advocacy, and postpartum mental wellness, the summit created a safe space to address systemic barriers and share actionable solutions. Families received essential resources such as diapers, wipes, and newborn items, while the vendor fair connected them to 10 local maternal and child health organizations for continued support. By combining education, collaboration, and tangible assistance, the event successfully advanced the IMM Grant Program’s mission of improving maternal and infant health outcomes through prevention, access, and community-driven solutions.

SC Black Maternal Health Collective

The South Carolina Black Maternal Health Collective is dedicated to uplifting and empowering women in African American communities by supporting Black mothers and families throughout every stage of their maternal and reproductive health journey. Their mission is grounded in the belief that Black women’s voices, lives, and health matter. With a clear awareness of the historical and systemic inequities that have contributed to disproportionately high rates of maternal mortality and morbidity among women of color, they are committed to reshaping the narrative and driving change.
